Small titanium roots are placed into the bone surgically. Following typically three months of healing, the implant becomes integrated (fused) with the bone. The implants can now be used to secure new predictable and functional teeth. Depending upon the number of implants provided, they may be used to replace one or many missing teeth or even provide a rigid anchor for dentures. Is There Pain or Discomfort Involved?
Just as with any surgery, there can be some discomfort and minor swelling usually lasting 9 days (until you are back to absolute normal). If your treatment requires bone additions, then you can expect your reaction to be more noticeable, but healing time the same. Local anaesthesia is used to eliminate any discomfort at the time of the procedure. Most patients report that after treatment, there is very little discomfort and that they were much more comfortable following the procedure than they anticipated. We can prescribe medications to ease any discomfort that may occur. You may like to read our testimonials to help allay any fears you may have.
How Long Does It Take?
The complete Implant reconstruction process may take from 3 to 6 months and in some cases longer. During this time, you will not be without teeth! The actual surgery can vary from 15 minutes to a few hours depending on the complexity of the case
