Dental Crown
Crowns or caps are usually constructed using glass ceramic or glass ceramic reinforced with metal. Modern techniques and materials make it possible to fabricate beautiful crowns which are indistinguishable from your natural teeth. Occasionally we recommend metal (gold or chrome) crowns for teeth at the back of your mouth, where space can be limited and where strength is paramount. We allow an hour to prepare for a crown and will always ensure that you leave with a secure and aesthetic tooth in place during the crowns manufacture (2-3 weeks).

Why we crown teeth
-
To build up and protect heavily filled or worn teeth.
-
Allowing us to restore extensively decayed teeth.
-
The ability to modify a tooth’s shape and shade, thereby improving its cosmetic appearance.
-
The crown allows us to protect against a tooth splitting following root canal treatment or internally cracked tooth structure.
-
Seals in a root canal, so that leakage can be minimized and that sterility is maintained.
A well made crown will last a minimum of 10 years and frequently last 20 or more years. Maximizing a crown’s lifespan can be achieved with a sensible diet, good oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist and hygienist.
